Parents & Grandparents Sponsorship

**Eligibility Requirements**

**For the Sponsor:**

- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

- Must be at least 18 years old.

- Must meet the minimum income requirements to prove that they can financially support the sponsored parents or grandparents. This includes providing proof of income for the past three years.

- Must not be in prison or have a criminal record related to violent crimes or sexual offenses.

- Must not be in bankruptcy or undergoing a bankruptcy process.

**For the Sponsored Parents or Grandparents:**

- Must be the biological or adoptive parent or grandparent of the sponsor.

- Must pass health and security checks. This includes medical exams to ensure they do not pose a risk to public health or safety, and background checks to ensure they do not have a criminal record or immigration violations.

**Financial Requirements**

Sponsors must meet a minimum necessary income level to prove they can support the sponsored individuals. This income level is determined based on the Low Income Measure (LIM) or the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) plus 30%. Sponsors must provide evidence of their income for the previous three years. For those living in the province of Quebec, additional financial requirements may apply as Quebec has its own criteria.

**Additional Information**

- **Caps and Lottery System:** Historically, the program has been subject to caps and lottery systems due to high demand. The Canadian government may set limits on the number of applications accepted each year. There has been no new draw for applicants since 2020.
